Markus Forster and Raphael Frank won the Best Demo Award at this year's edition of the IEEE Vehicular Networking Conference (VNC 2014), which was held December 3-5 in Paderborn, Germany.
They presented a recommandation based Driver Assistance System to Mitigate Vehicular Traffic Shock Waves. The system has been tested during the field experiment conducted in September at a test track in the north of Luxembourg. To demonstrate how the system works, a traffic simulation has been coupled to the device. A smartphone is used to interact with the driver. The interface has been designed to minimize driver's distractions. To do so, the system relies on visual and acoustic signals to inform the driver about upcoming traffic perturbations.
